VPL Chemicals Pvt Ltd (VPL), India is one of largest manufacturers of Sesamin Compound. Sesamin oil obtained from the seeds of sesame has two lignans i.e Sesamin and Sesamolin.
VPL obtains the sesamin oil from reputed sesamin oil mills, after though quality check, oil shall be preheated to above 100 Deg C to then takes it for extraction of the said lignans in their GMP facility. Extraction of Sesamin and Sesamolin will be carried out using Class III solvents in glass lined reactors (cGMP) in approved class I area. During or before the extraction process only Reverse Osmosis (RO) water was allowed to use even for washing of the reactors or process equipment.
Generally Seamin Oil contains 0.6 to 0.7% of Sesamin and 0.3% to 0.2% of Sesamolin. These two active compounds will be extracted in to solvent phase for more than 12 hours, concentrated and then subjected for crystallization below 5 Deg C temperature for a period of 24 hours. The crystalline powder will be dried analysed for its purity. Normally, after completion of the process Sesamin and Sesamoin together would be 90%. This compound is commercially known as Sesamin Complex 90%, where in sesamin would be 65% to 80% and Sesamolin would be 25% to 10% depending on the raw material/oil. Some formulators also use Sesamin complex 70% (Sesamin 50% to 65 %and Sesamolin 20% to 10%) using maltodextrin as an excipient. A few cosmetic and sports nutrition industries use Sesamin 90% (Sesamin alone 90% and Sesamolin content is negligible it would be less than 2%).
